Some information on the Yule Log Hunt/Christmas Parade on December 3rd, 2011
From Janet Bennett,
At our last parade meeting, the parade committee told me that they do not have a non-profit group to sponsor the Yule Log Hunt this year which is planned to be at Sourdough Ranch again. The Hunt takes place in the morning on the day of the parade, December 3rd. The non-profit that sponsors this event keeps all the proceeds from the event. There can be a charge (or donation) for parking, the group can sell hot chocolate and/or apple cider. There are grills at the site so the group can sell lunch (hot dogs or something simple). Dominoes has generously offered to donate pizzas to our group whenever we have an event so I was thinking if we hosted it, we could sell pizza and sodas (which I can also get donated). The event usually brings in about 75 - 100 people. The parade committee hides the Yule Log about 2 weeks in advance. In the past we have always helped them by watching the perimeter of the Ranch to make sure no one strays away from the event. Would we like to host the entire event this year? I don't want to commit to this unless I have several volunteers from SAR that will handle everything. This is a great opportunity for the general support and mission support members that aren't able to go out into the field or for those that don't want to go into the field. The Unit can use your help now and you can help to raise more money for the unit. Your help is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you think we should sponsor the event and you can help with it. If we don't do it, do you know of a non-profit in the area that might like to take it on? The parade committee needs to know within the next week or so.

The Parade Comm also suggested another fun event if
we decide to host the Yule Log Hunt. We can hide "The Jingle Bell
Rock" somewhere on the premises. We can sell clues for $1.00 each (or
some amount) and the participants have to follow the clues to try to
find the Jingle Bell Rock. That Parade Committee is full of ideas!
